Buy More, Save More

Reward customers with progressive discounts or gifts as they purchase more items. Each tier unlocks at a specific quantity threshold with escalating incentives.

How It Works

Each tier has a minimum quantity requirement and a single reward type (percentage discount, fixed amount discount, or free gift). As customers add items and reach each threshold, the tier's reward applies automatically.

If the customer drops below a tier's threshold, the reward is removed. The highest tier the customer qualifies for determines which reward applies.

Example:

  • Tier 1: Buy 2 → 10% off

  • Tier 2: Buy 4 → 15% off

  • Tier 3: Buy 6 → 20% off

Setup

  1. Open the Abra app and click Create Promotion

  2. Set Visibility to Private while configuring

    • Note: Public visibility makes the promotion active immediately on save

  3. Scroll to Discounts and click Add a discount

  4. Select Volume Discount

  5. Enter a URL-friendly discount code (e.g., BUY-MORE-SAVE-MORE)

  6. Configure your settings:

    • Customer Buys - Set minimum quantity and choose which products, variants, or collections qualify

    • Variant-Level Requirements - Choose whether quantities must come from a single variant or can be mixed

    • Tiers - Define up to 5 quantity thresholds and assign one incentive type per tier (percentage off, fixed amount off, or free gift)

      • Important: All tiers must use the same incentive class (e.g., all percentage discounts or all gifts), but values can differ per tier

    • Customer Eligibility - All customers or a specific Shopify segment

    • Usage Limits - Per order, per customer, or total uses

    • Sales Channels and Markets - Limit if needed

  7. Click Save

  8. Scroll to Storefront Blocks, activate any required blocks, and place them in your theme editor

    • Recommended: Tiered Banner on product pages

See Promotion Configuration for details on each discount field.

Creating Multiple Buy More Save More Promotions

You can create multiple Buy More Save More structures within the same promotion to target different products, collections, markets, or channels.

Common use cases:

  • Collection-based - Different tier structures for different collections (e.g., T-Shirts: Buy 2 get 10% off, Jeans: Buy 3 get 15% off)

  • Market-based - Different tiers for different regions (e.g., US: Buy 3 get 15% off, Canada: Buy 4 get 20% off)

  • Product-based - Separate tier structures for specific products or variants

  • Channel-based - Different tiers for different sales channels (e.g., Tapcart app vs. Online Store)

To add additional Buy More Save More discounts:

  1. Return to the main Promotion page

  2. Click Add a discount again

  3. Add a new Volume Discount with its own purchase requirements, markets, channels, and tier structure

  4. Repeat for up to 5 Volume Discounts per promotion

Example:

  • Discount 1: T-Shirts collection → Buy 2 get 10% off, Buy 4 get 20% off

  • Discount 2: Jeans collection → Buy 2 get 15% off, Buy 3 get 25% off

Storefront Display

Use Tiered Banners to show customers their progress toward the next tier.

Recommended block placement:

  • Tiered Banner on product pages (shows progress)

  • Gift Banner in cart (if using free gifts as the tier reward)

See Storefront Blocks for block types and placement options.

Variant-Level Requirements

Control whether customers must reach quantity thresholds using the same variant or can mix variants:

  • Enabled - Customer must buy multiples of the same variant (e.g., 5x "Red T-Shirt - Large")

  • Disabled - Customer can mix any selected variants to meet the threshold (e.g., 3x Red + 2x Blue)

Limitations

  • Buy More Save More uses Volume Discounts, which support one incentive class across all tiers

    • All tiers must use the same reward type (percentage, fixed amount, or gift)

    • Values can differ per tier (e.g., 10% → 15% → 20%)

    • To combine different incentive types (e.g., gift + discount), use Multi-Class Tier Discounts instead

  • Maximum of 5 tiers per Volume Discount

  • Each tier must have a unique quantity threshold

  • Shopify automatic discounts may conflict with Abra promotions and cause unpredictable behavior (e.g., gifts not discounted, codes not applying).
