Discount Eligibility
Customer Discount Eligibility is a discount-level setting that validates customer information at checkout to confirm they're in the eligible segment before applying the discount. It can be added to any discount within a promotion, regardless of whether the promotion uses Public, Private (Abra Link), or Customer Account visibility.
What it controls: Who qualifies for the discount at checkout
What it does NOT control: Who sees storefront blocks or messaging (controlled by promotion-level visibility: Public, Private, or Customer Account)
How It Works
At checkout, Abra validates the customer's email address or account against the selected customer segment:
Customer adds items to cart with discount applied
Customer proceeds to checkout and enters email address (or is already logged in)
Abra checks: Is this customer in the eligible segment?
If yes: Discount remains applied
If no: Discount is removed, pricing reverts to full price
How to Set Up Customer Discount Eligibility
Open or create a promotion in Abra
Scroll to Discounts and open a discount
Scroll to Discount Eligibility
Choose between:
All customers (no restrictions)
Specific customer segments (select Shopify segment(s))
Click Save
Creating customer segments: Customer segments are created in Shopify and can include:
Purchase history
Customer tags
Location
Lifetime value
Subscription status

When to Use Customer Discount Eligibility
Discount Eligibility validates customer information at checkout to ensure only intended customers receive the discount. Use it to prevent unauthorized redemptions, protect exclusive pricing, or add security to any promotion type.
Prevent link sharing - Use Private (Abra Link) visibility + VIP segment eligibility. If VIPs forward the link to non-VIPs, the discount is removed at checkout when the email doesn't match the segment.
Protect wholesale pricing - Use Customer Account visibility (example tag: Wholesale) + Wholesale segment eligibility. Only logged-in wholesale customers see and receive wholesale pricing.
Drive subscription sign-ups - Use Public visibility + Subscriber segment eligibility. Everyone sees "Subscriber Exclusive: Free Gift at $100," but only subscribers qualify at checkout.
Double-validate high-value offers - Use Customer Account visibility + matching segment eligibility. Even if someone borrows a login, the discount won't apply unless they're in the eligible segment.
