Extend Your Promotion into Checkout with Extension Blocks

Abra’s Checkout Extension Blocks enable Shopify Plus merchants to extend their promotions into checkout with a customizable Gift and Tier Banner and Product Recommendations. 

Storefront Blocks

Checkout Extension Upsell is built on Shopify's checkout extensibility framework, which lets apps add blocks directly into checkout through the checkout editor. For more on how app blocks work in checkout, see Shopify's documentation.

Abra adds two blocks to checkout:

• Gift and Tier Banner: displays promotion progress, gift reminders and gift selection.

• Product Recommendations: suggests additional products to the customer.

Gift and Tier Banner

The Gift and Tier Banner displays promotion progress and gift selection at checkout.

• Customize the content shown at each stage:

• Initial announcement

• Progress

• Pending selection

• Success

• Add an icon to the banner.

• Use Abra's liquid variables to display dynamic values, such as a customer's remaining discount progress.

If your customer has qualified for a gift onsite or in-checkout but has not added it to the cart or has removed it from their cart accidentally, this banner can display as a "don't forget your gift!" recommendation. This is a great way to reduce logistics headaches and support tickets.

Product Recommendations

Product Recommendations suggest additional products to customers at checkout. Recommendations are generated using a combination of purchase history and product similarity, so suggestions stay relevant to what the customer is already buying. These recommendations are also promotion-aware and will only display products that are included in your promotion.

The default text on your product recommendation is “You might also like,” but you can update the copy as needed on a per storefront block basis.

Assigning Blocks to a Discount

If a promotion includes more than one discount, assign the Gift and Tier Banner and Product Recommendations to the discount each should be tied to.

Customizing Colors, Copy, and Translations

Checkout Extension Upsell uses the same branding, copy, and translation settings as Abra's other storefront blocks.

Limitation

• Due to Shopify checkout limitations, gifts cannot be automatically added when a customer reaches the threshold. Customers must manually select the gift.
